BRAGETEATRET is a professional theatre and a Public Organisation, run by Buskerud County and Drammen City, funded by the owners and the Norwegian State. The theatre is located at Union Scene, by the Ypsilon bridge and next to Papirbredden.
Brageteatret’s main purpose is to produce and play theatre with the perspective of children and young people, as well as theatre with a multicultural perspective.
The theatre’s most important task consequently is to listen to what children and young people have on their minds and contribute to their being heard. The theatre is to identify and profile topics of interest to children and young people, their thoughts, dreams and culture.
Artistic Discoveries in European Schoolyards
PLATFORM 11+ is a new European network of 13 theatres from 12 countries, in connection with local cultural organisations, universities and schools. The focus of the network is young teens, 11-15 years old. For people of this age there are few cultural offerings across Europe, despite an engagement with art at this point in life being invaluable for the formation of values, personality and worldview. PLATFORM 11+ strives to fill this gap with a long-lasting effect and create maximal synergies between the partners.
After four years’ work, PLATFORM 11+ wants to present a many-layered (self-)portrait of a young European generation, whose presence at the beginning of the 21st century is reflected in more than 30 new plays, 50 interdisciplinary co-productions and theatre events, 40 pieces of art and new media and in a European database with theatre plays for the target group.
Brageteatret is the leading organisation of this artistic network, which collaborates with the initiator of the project, Dirk Neldner/Germany.

In 2001 Norway established a new concept with the purpuse – how to give all pupils between 6 and 16 years quality meetings with art – named “The Cultural Rucksack”.
In our region there are 146 schools, with a total of 32 000 pupils. Through this programme, they are guaranteed 5 cultural encounters with art every year: Theatre/dance performances, concerts, exhibitions, literature and cultural heritage. This means a total of 150 000 “Cultural Rucksack-Experiences”!
Brageteatret is responsible for offering a variety of theatre/dance performances, both plays we have produced ourselves, and productions we have bought from other companies.
Brageteatret plays more than 350 performances each year. The theatre plays for +/- 40 000 children and young people every year.
DID YOU KNOW THAT … ALL SCHOOLCHILDREN IN BUSKERUD SEE BRAGETEATRET EVERY YEAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS?
